OUR MISSION

During her life, Sarah Gibson was known as an incredibly talented composer and performer. Sarah, however, devoted just as much time and passion to music education and helping to develop the careers of young musicians. She found so much satisfaction in mentoring them, helping them to avoid the pitfalls, take advantage of the opportunities, and — most importantly — find their artistic voices. Rarely was Sarah more energized than when a young composer knew what they wanted to say, but was eager for guidance on how to say it. She would dive in, excited to share the gift of expressing oneself through music.

Sarah’s work undoubtedly enriched the Los Angeles new music community, especially its younger composers and performers. We want to continue the spirit of her work, which is why we’ve started The Sarah Gibson Foundation. 

The Sarah Gibson Foundation is devoted to encouraging and developing the next generation of musical voices through financial assistance, mentorship, and professional opportunities. The foundation will provide scholarships for outstanding college students pursuing a degree in a musical field and provide those students with mentorship sessions from a professional in their field. Additionally, the Foundation is dedicated to commissioning new pieces from up-and-coming composers and ensuring that they receive multiple performances. Sarah was distinctly aware of the power these commissions could have on a young artist’s career and we want to continue her work of making sure that exciting new voices are given the chance to write for world class musicians.
